Pack 2 is built exactly like Pack 1 and shares none of its material. Every question on both papers is walked through the same six steps — decode it, learn the method, watch it built out loud, compare Grade 4, 6 and 8 versions, write your own, check yourself — and then both papers appear again, clean, for you to sit under timed conditions.
Built for the AQA GCSE English Language (8700) specification — for students sitting the exam in summer 2027, whether you’re resitting or sitting it for the first time.

What’s inside
- Two more complete papers, all-new extracts
- The same six-step build for all ten questions
- Grade 4, 6 and 8 answers side by side
- Both papers again under exam conditions
- 88 pages, A4, write-in
Why one set of papers is not enough
You worked through a method once, on one pair of extracts, and it made sense at the time. Then the exam puts unfamiliar texts in front of you and the method does not come with them. Practice on a single set of papers teaches you those papers. The difficulty is rarely the method. It is not having applied it often enough for it to survive a text you have never seen.
This workbook breaks that skill into clear, manageable steps, helping you understand what examiners are looking for and apply it independently.
Built for a specific gap, not a general topic
This workbook is suitable for you if you are:
- Preparing for AQA GCSE English Language
- Coming from Pack 1, or wanting a second full set of papers with the method built in
- Working independently, with a tutor, in class or revising at home
Five things you’ll be able to do
The second pack is where the method stops being something you follow and starts being something you have.
Apply the same six-step method to unfamiliar extracts, which is the only thing the exam will ask of you.
Handle a Paper 2 comparison where both writers agree on the subject and differ on almost everything else.
Answer the structure question with depth rather than a list, as the 2026 specification now requires.
Build a 20-mark evaluation that takes a position and defends it with evidence.
Apply these skills confidently in exam-style questions.
Six steps, ten questions, twice over
The activities build gradually from explanation and guided practice to independent exam-style work. Identical structure to Pack 1 by design — nothing new to learn about the book, everything new to learn about the texts. You can work through the book in order, or use individual sections to target a particular weakness.

What you get across the 88 pages
A first-person fiction extract — a young narrator’s first journey alone by train. Questions 1–5, modelled step by step.
Two teachers on the children they teach: an 1888 memoir and a 2024 essay. Questions 1–5, modelled step by step.
Both papers again, clean, with write-in space — no models, no prompts.
Multiple-choice Question 1, a narrowed structure question, and the story-opening narrative task.
Glossary · toolkit of verbs, words, sentences and punctuation · mark schemes at a glance.
Self-assessment guidance and a progress tracker to compare against your Pack 1 attempts.
Where this gets you
By the end of the workbook you’ll have four full papers behind you across the two packs, a method you can apply to any extract the exam puts in front of you, and a clearer understanding of how to improve the quality of your answers.
Sitting a paper tells you your mark. Watching one built tells you how to get a better one.
